Next Tuesday, the William G. Baker, Jr. Memorial Fund will be announcing the winners of the 2011 Baker Artist Awards. The three winners of the Mary Sawyers Baker Prize will each be awarded $25,000, and were selected by a private jury of national experts. The announcement will happen on Maryland Public Television at 7:30pm, on Tuesday, April 19.
That same day the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts will be announcing the finalists for the $25,000 Janet and Walter Artscape Sondheim Prize. All in all, a huge day for individual artists in the Baltimore region. Both the Sondheim Finalists, and the winners of the Mary Sawyers Baker Prize will be exhibited at the Baltimore Museum of Art later this year.
GBCA has administered the Baker Artist Awards since its inception three years ago. Each year, it is amazing to see the breadth and depth of the artist community in the region. The Baker Fund and GBCA will be hosting a public event to watch the announcement on MPT at The Windup Space in Station North next Tuesday. The event is public and open to the arts and cultural community, and will be from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. This is a first come first served event, and space will be limited. Free beverages will be provided, in addition to pizza from Joe Squared. Please join us to celebrate not only the 2011 winners of the Baker Artist Awards, but the vibrant arts community as well.
Until next week–
