One thing I admire about the Baltimore Rock Opera Society, is that they’re doing it in style. At the core is a committed group of five or six, but a large, vociferous circle of volunteers surrounds them, drawn to the “BROS” (as they’re commonly called) and their DIY ethic (or perhaps it’s more accurate to say DIWO). This weekend, the BROS open a double header of original new rock operas, and they’re doing it in a new venue. We’re happy that the BROS joined GBCA as a member organization this past week.
The old Showtime Theatre on 25th Street between Maryland and Charles Street has been resurrected by a local entrepreneur. Aided by the volunteer muscle of the BROS, the space seats (from what I’ve heard) approximately 280. While I haven’t heard anything about how other groups may rent the space, it is important that Baltimore has another venue in this seating range.
Several years ago, GBCA helped on a study, which in part helped to identify viable performance spaces in the city. If you click on this link, you’ll see a chart of several of the venues in the City. If you have trouble reading the chart, please contact us, and we’ll send you a version in Excel. Some spaces are available to rent, but many are not. If you see your venue missing from the chart, please get in touch with us.
