Artscape week is officially upon us, and this year promises to be a great event, as Artscape celebrates its 30th Anniversary. America’s largest free urban cultural festival, about 350,000 people will attend Artscape festivities this week. On Saturday night at the Baltimore Museum of Art, Artscape kicked off with the announcement of this year’s Sondheim Prize, Baltimore filmmaker Matthew Porterfield took home the $25,000 prize.
All this week, the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts, utilizing a small army of volunteers, will transform parts of Mt. Vernon and Station North into Baltimore’s most important cultural event of the year. I am always delighted by the diversity of Artscape, both in terms of the breadth of artistic disciplines represented and the rich diversity of the audiences.
Until next week–
Buck Jabaily, Executive Director
