What a week for Baltimore arts scene in the press! The New York Times Travel section included a 36 Hours in Baltimore piece that was perfect for visiting hipsters and connoisseurs alike. Then, Forbes Magazine votes Hampden one of the top ten hippest neighborhoods for hipsters. Is it possible that we are trendy?

On another note, one of the strengths of Baltimore’s emerging arts scene is its abundance of affordable post-industrial space. But those spaces sometimes have their challenges as demonstrated by the recent shuttering of Load of Fun. Although temporary, the closure has left its resident artists including In Flight Theatre, scrambling.

GBCA is relieved to hear that Glass Mind Theatre has a home for their upcoming production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Autograph Theatre. Autograph is best known as home of the Baltimore Rock Opera Society (BROS). Glass Mind expresses appreciation to the BROS and owner Billie Taylor. The show will open on September 28th.

Speaking of the BROS, be sure to check out their Second Annual Pitch Party next Sunday, September 29 at Area 405.

Also displaced from Load of Fun, Single Carrot Theatre’s Drunk Enough to Say I Love You? Will open at MICA’s Falvey Hall in the Brown Center on October 5th. The Company is working with MICA to accommodate the entire run through October 21, but be sure to check their website for details to confirm dates, location, and performance times.

Don’t forget, the Baltimore Book Festival is on its way this weekend with some important new connections to the community including events that will take place at CenterStage. Be sure to check out the action in Mt. Vernon!
