Executive Director’s Letter
May 28, 2013
It’s post-Memorial Day, school’s almost out, and summer is nearly up and running. A sure sign of this was Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts’ press conference with Mayor Stephanie Rawlings Blake today to formally announce plans for Artscape 2013. Be sure to check out their new app and all the opportunities to participate in the fun.
Over the past months, GBCA has been gearing up for a redesign of both its website and Baltimorefunguide.com. The Funguide is the most comprehensive online regional arts and culture calendar, but it hasn’t undergone a complete overhaul since at least 2008. Boy, oh boy things were different then—both in technology and the cultural community! Now, with generous support from The Robert W. Deutsch Foundation, The William G. Baker, Jr., Memorial Fund, France Merrick Foundation, and The Ruth and Henry Blaustein Rosenberg Fund, we are moving forward with this exciting work. Our expected timeline for a finished product is spring 2014, in time to promote the fall season. As a first step, we are opening a dialogue with our partners, organizations and individuals who use these tools, to identify and affirm the priorities of our community. I hope you will watch this space for regular updates and progress reports. This is a major undertaking and we mean to get it right.
My Baltimore tour over the last few weeks gave me two opportunities to see the fabulous CJay Phillip and Dance & BMore, first at Theatre Project and then as part of the American Alliance of Museums conference. CJay is also a 2013 b-grant winner. Brava!
Enjoy the cool weather while you can!
