Artscape, Sondheim and Greatfulness

Executive Director’s Letter
July 16, 2013

It’s time for Artscape 2013!  Make your plans now for the country’s largest free arts festival July 19-21.  GBCA will be sending out a special e-blast tomorrow that highlights our members’ programs and participation so you can be on the lookout for the best and the brightest.  Be sure to hydrate!

Congratulations to the 2013 Sondheim Award winner and finalists.  The finalist exhibition at GBCA member The Walters Art Museum runs through Sunday, August 11, 2013, so be sure to check it out.

This week, I have been feeling especially grateful, both personally and professionally.  Those of us at GBCA are deeply thankful to be doing this work on behalf of the cultural community and we are humbled by the confidence and support of our funders, members, volunteers, and community-at-large.

And since we are focusing on thankfulness, we want open a community dialogue about why we are grateful for the arts.  Please take a minute on our Facebook pageto share your story.  While we’re at it, I want to give a personal shout out to my Montgomery Blair High School art teacher, Carole Goodman.  She taught me so much about art, but also helped me understand my resilience and strength when my father died.  Carole, if you’re out there please take a bow.  (I still have the Marvin Mondlick Award you made for me.)

Stay cool,
Jeannie
